Mr. Fix-It and G-man BOTH get older!

Happy birthday, Mr. Fix-It! The big 33..... and it was a good one! Mr. Fix-It kept saying all day that he couldn't have asked for a better birthday! We started his special day with my very first 5k (more on that). Then the Everythings came with us for a big Easter Egg Hunt...
....complete with bounce house, real bunnies, face painting, train rides!
After lunch and naps, it was on to hair cuts for the kiddos! Big Sis was so still as she got her nails painted - she's growing up!
And G-man.... omg, my baby is no longer a baby! Just look how cute he is with his new 'do! Here's a before of his messy mop:

His first hair cut...
And his super cool, big boy look! (Sniff, sniff!!)

We got home just in time to throw ourselves together while the babysitter and the Everythings were showing up. (I had planned to have some time to do my hair/makeup and look fab, but... it didn't happen so I just had to get over it!) We made the rounds. First, dinner at Roy's - it's a Hawaiian fusion place. We started with some sushi (and a Hawaiian martini for me!), then I tried something new and it was amazing! It might have been Dynamite Crusted Hawaiian Kajiki with panko crusted vegetable sushi roll.... looking at the menu, that one looks the closest.

Then on to Gordon Biersch to watch some Final 4, have some drinks, and tell some stories! And then... dessert at Cheesecake Factory. SO fun!! Mrs. Everything snapped this picture on her phone - it's us with the bday cheesecake we shared (and it's the only pic from the night - I meant to bring a camera!)

Big Sis helped me decorate this cake for Mr. Fix-It... professionals, we are NOT! Cake and gifts on Sunday and that wraps up his birthday weekend.
Hope you enjoyed it, Mr. Fix-It! Happy birthday, babe...

weekend update

One thing is abundantly clear after this last weekend, y'all. I am not, in fact, 22 years old. As much as I thought I could drink like I was at that fab wedding at the Gaylord Texan that I was telling y'all about.... geez. I didn't think I drank that much. (In my dazed hangover on Sunday, when I was counting back my drinks to Mr. Fix-It, I had actually only left 1 drink unaccounted for... which Mr. Fix-It was quick to point out.) I know for a fact it was that super stiff apple-tini (which must have been double the vodka, hold the apple) that put me over the edge. And that was one of our pre-wedding drinks at the bar - oops!

But what made the evening truly bizarre was the mix of company. I had no idea how it was going to be like that old game show where 3 people from your past are behind the doors and you have to guess who each is (does anyone remember what I'm talking about?) Anyway. Mr. Fix-It and I have known the bride for 9!! years. We actually grew up 30 miles away from each other, but met in KS at our very first out-of-college jobs. We were close with her and when we made plans to move to TX, she did as well.

So, I knew there'd be some KS girls there that I knew. There were also some KS people there I hadn't thought of, but it was good to catch up. But what was truly insane... is that somehow, a couple guys that I worked/partied with my FRESHMAN year in college are friends of the bride and groom as well. Those guys knew me as an 18 year old "goofy girl" (their exact words, but what do you expect from 2 guys who were like brothers to me?).... I was blonde, had wild, curly hair, and probably thought I was the next hot thing. Geez.... What was even crazier was realizing that was 13 yrs ago. OMG, we're old.

I was hoping to have a few good pics to show you, but not really. I'm afraid of what the wedding photographer might have caught. But I will say this.... Mr. Fix-It is always the sweet husband to tell me I look nice, etc, but he usually doesn't care if my hair is curly/straight, up/down, if my makeup is a smoky eye/more classic, if my dress is blue or black.... but I wore my hair up and my makeup smokier than I had in ages... and he couldn't stop telling me how great I looked. What makes this funny, was reading Sasha's blog today about the Bumpit. Y'all. My hair kinda looked like this.... but I'd like to think it was more inspired by this last season of the Bachelor. I feel like I must come up with pictures of this to prove it was okay. I promise it was. ;)
Btw, the ceremony was amazing - truly unique and spirtual and sweet. And the venue was perfect - if you've been to the Gaylord, you know it's like being outside, but in the comfort of the a/c. And if you haven't been to the Gaylord, you should totally come down and try it out. But let me know first and I'll come have one of those obnoxious apple-tinis with you at the sports bar.

More wine, please!

I'm heading home to feed the kiddos and have some of this:

Okay, it may or may not be this exact brand, but it's definitely going to be a riesling and I could definitely stand to relax. I am probably/definitely going to finish the whole bottle. By myself. Tonight. While I try to catch last night's episode of Big Love.

Stay tuned...

I'm finishing up Big Sister and G-man's semi-homemade valentines tonight and I'll put up pics as soon as I can. They're not nearly exciting as the gifts they did for Christmas, but I'm busy and we all just have to deal with that.

Busy? What? Well, it's partly due to the fact that I'm going to dinner tonight with 2 old friends. This is exciting because:

1. They serve margaritas there
2. I need adult time and miss these girls!
3. This dinner (which was originally to get together for the holidays - as in Christmas!!) has been reschedule no fewer than 3 times. And each of those times was my fault.
- A work deadline...
- Then one of those rare snow/ice days we get in TX which causes schools/daycares to close...
- And most recently, we were going to go on the night that Big Sister took that nasty fall at school and bit thru her lip. I ended up at the after-hours clinic instead of sipping a margarita.

But I'll make up for all of that tonight... those valentines might end up looking pretty interesting...

The Reader

Okay, so when you only go to the movies 2-3 times a year, there's all this pressure for the movie to be really good. And for us, that usually means an Oscar-nominated is a big, fat waste of time. Case in point:

So, my parents were in town from OK for the weekend, and we got the rare opportunity for a free babysitter! (We're in a recession, remember, people?) So, off we head to the movies... instead of going to the one near us, we had to go to the one in the mall, because we had cashed in credit card rewards for AMC movie tickets (again, the effects of the damn recession). The mall is annoying because the traffic is bad and I get really scared about Big Sister ever becoming a teenager.... the girls wear THE shortest skirts and I can't describe to you the teenage makeout sessions. Ewww....

We were going to see Taken, a thriller/mystery about a kidnapping with that girl Shannon from "Lost".... but we couldn't use our 'reward' tickets on it, so we had to pick a movie starting at the same time that was available to us.... We'd both heard of The Reader, it's about the war in Germany, concentration camps, etc... it's nominated for awards, I like Kate Winslet.... I FELL ASLEEP, if that tells you anything. Granted, I'm beyond exhausted lately, but 30 min in, I was already fighting a nap. It was okay.... I'm just saying.... it made me contemplate just snoozing for 2 (un-interrupted!) hours... The last movie we saw was Madagascar 2 with Big Sister, and I liked it better. What has happened to me?
I'll be back later to show you the semi-homemade Valentine's I'm going to whip up for Big Sister and G-man's classes at school...

There's no denying it now.... I'm in my 30's

And I'm not just now getting to the party either! So, I'm 31... okay, let's move on.

But really, I had the. sweetest. birthday yesterday. Especially considering I had a super sick husband and baby and Big Sister had strep. The weekend before, sweet husband (he's a builder... let's call him Mr. Fix-It and when I come up with something clever we'll change it).... took me to the mall where he had me pick out a super cute outfit from Gap. Now, this outfit suggested I'd be spending time at a spa.... but never in my wildest dreams would I have come up with this!

My sweet friend Mrs. Everything (who helped plan this whole thing - lucky me to have such a dear friend!) picked me up Sat morning with a soy vanilla latte (that's a whole other topic in itself... that I've gone dairy-free while nursing my sweet baby boy G-man. Anyway, that's my current fave at the 'Bucks... As we're discussing how nice it will be to get some grown-up girly time without wiping up spit up or feeding someone or even hearing the word "mommy," she drives us there.... to Cooper Spa! This is a super nice, we-can't-afford-it-in-this-recession spa.

OMG, it was amazing... I was pampered for hours! First a massage. Usually, I don't have the attention span for massages and I don't relax well.... that doesn't make me a very good massage participant. But I didn't want this one to end! Love.ly. Then on to a facial - my first one! (I'm sure the tech could tell!) Then manis and pedis and lots of good girly talk. We left and had lunch and both kiddos were up from naps when I got home. Heaven. Just the best. I love you, Mr. Fix-It and Mrs. Everything!
